Originally from Georgia, Christopher moved to Hawaii about 10 years ago. In his free time, he enjoys relaxing, watching movies, and gaming. While he enjoyed his downtime, his professional life was a different story—he was stuck in the "unpredictable" cycle of temporary work and was looking for something he could count on.
The Path to Permanent Employment
Christopher’s journey began when his mother told him about Work Now Hawaii. He started with the Trial Work Experience (TWE) program at New Hope Leeward. There, he was able to build his professional foundation.
He then transitioned into a Work-Based Learning experience with the Hawaii National Guard. This was a turning point, as it allowed him to gain specialized custodial experience in a professional setting. Christopher’s work ethic was clear from the start; he performed so well during his training that Work Now Hawaii officially hired him as a permanent member of the custodial team at Ft. Shafter Flats.
A Win for the Whole Family
The move to a permanent role brought more than just a job title—it brought a better quality of life. For Christopher and his mother, the benefits were immediate:
- Better Pay: Providing more financial security than temp services.
- Easier Commute: The new site was much closer to home.
- Stability: Moving away from the stress of "temp" work to a steady routine.
A Fast Learner with a Bright Future
Christopher has proven to be a fast learner who jumps right into any task. He works seamlessly with his teammates, constantly picking up new skills. Reflecting on his journey, Christopher notes the massive difference a steady environment makes:
“Work Now Hawaii impacted my life by helping me get a stable job, which was a lot easier than temp services.”
Christopher’s Advice: "Keep trying."
