As a Hawaiian veteran with a deep love for home and his two dogs, Eddie NaHinu hoped to rebuild his life with steady work and a stable routine. But like many disabled veterans transitioning back into the civilian workforce, he faced challenges that made it difficult to secure and maintain employment. His living situation was unstable, and maintaining consistent attendance was challenging, leaving him unsure of where to turn next.

His path forward began when his VA case worker connected him with Work Now Hawaii. From his very first interaction, he felt something different, like understanding, compassion, and genuine support. “The whole staff has shown me nothing but love,” he shared, reflecting on how the team immediately made him feel welcomed and supported.

Entering the program, his hopes were simple yet deeply meaningful, including finding stable employment and a consistent work schedule so he could take care of himself and his dogs. Work Now Hawaii and the VA worked hand in hand to make that transition not only possible, but smooth. Together, they provided training, structure, and the encouragement he needed to move forward with confidence.

When he was offered a custodial position, the feeling was immediate and overwhelming, making him very happy. Not only had he secured a job, but he had taken a major step toward stability, dignity, and independence. Eddie’s joy in being employed is heard through his whistling and humming as he works. The routine, the paycheck, and the ability to provide for himself and his dogs became more than goals; they were signs that his life was moving in the right direction.

Looking back, he calls his decision to work with Work Now Hawaii, “the best move I made.”
Today, his hopes remain grounded yet powerful as he maintains his employment, pays his bills, and ensures he and his dogs always have what they need. His journey is a testament to resilience, community, and the life-changing impact of organizations that believe in the potential of every veteran. He would also like to share his advice with other disabled veterans seeking employment: “Work Now Hawaii is the best starting point.”
