Isaiah Kapoi is moving on to bigger and brighter things, away from our organization, Work Now Hawaii (WNH)! This marks yet another success story that WNH has been proudly involved in. Isaiah was born and raised on the west side of Oahu, growing up in Ewa Beach. For his hobbies, he often writes poetry, and takes long walks. The internet was our connection to Isaiah as he Googled “Disability Employment” and WNH suddenly appeared unto him. As a result, Isaiah decided to take a chance and reached out to us. He came with the intent of finding competitive employment with no recent work experience after a long hiatus of being idle due to the nature of his disability. When Isaiah entered our program, he quickly got to work and gradually learned both soft and hard skills.
Through Isaiah’s experience at WNH, he got the right support system from both of his Supervisors and Job Coach to feel confident in the workplace after each passing day. He did custodial work for one of our state contracts like taking out the trash, mopping down the floors or cleaning tables. While Isaiah worked through his disability, he was supported with a flexible schedule that met his needs to do his best work, meanwhile discovering effective communication is everything to an organization. With it, everyone at WNH had Isaiah’s back and made sure that he navigated well working as a custodian for one of our state contracts.
Isaiah is gearing up for a new adventure of being a classroom cleaner with Hawaii’s Department of Education (DOE). He will enjoy helping keep classrooms tidy, providing an atmosphere for kids to stay healthy, safe and do their best work! According to Isaiah, obtaining this job will mean having more potential, new opportunities within the DOE system on his resume down the line.
Finally, Isaiah encourages anybody interested in getting the support they need at WNH, “Go for it and apply… It’s a good organization coupled with good people. It will be an awesome experience overall.”
Isaiah Kapoi is yet another shining example of our mission in action, creating and supporting employment opportunities for people living with disabilities. We love to help people with disabilities succeed and achieve through any of our work readiness programs or employment.
Congrats, Isaiah, you got this!
