Ken is another hard worker that can usually be found around the Work Now Hawaii office. He often helps with custodial duties, such as mopping the restrooms, vacuuming the floors, pulling weeds, and occasionally checking the mail. Ken is also able to utilize his love for cooking and the kitchen to assist with handling the dishes and maintaining a tidy office kitchen area.
Ken began his cleaning career at a local Church with another participant. He then moved on to a janitorial role for the Work Now Hawaii office. His hard work and positive attitude has even helped him land a regular shift at Developmental Disabilities Division locations, to further enhance his skills and advance his career.
When he first started, he claims he knew nothing about the job, but over time he learned a lot. Ken says, “helping people is important,” to him. He enjoys coming to work and appreciates the people he works with. Ken was so glad to be working regularly and making a stable paycheck that he went out of his way to bless everyone at the office with Christmas gifts last year. He said it makes him happy to be able to share his successes with everyone. Even through his life struggles, he has a kind and giving heart and shows gratitude towards others.
“I am happy,” says Ken, when talking about Work Now Hawaii’s impact on his life. He’s been coming to work for quite some time, and he enjoys that it keeps him busy. Ken hopes the skills and stability he gains from work will eventually help him visit family in Kauai.
