Hernani is a deaf individual who describes himself as friendly, funny, and caring once people get to know him. In his free time, he enjoys watching movies after work. He also participates in a lot of basketball and volleyball activities and enjoys staying active.
This same high energy and positive attitude reflect well in his work ethic. Hernani started working with Work Now Hawaii in 2023, after transferring from another company. He began at the Foreign Trade Zone doing evening custodial work before moving to the AbilityOne US Army contract. Along with others on his team, he cleaned several buildings on Fort Shafter, Shafter Flats, and with the Department of Environmental Services.

When the Environmental Services Division contract renewed, they were so impressed with his work, that they specifically requested Hernani to be their full-time custodian! This request, and glowing review, enabled Hernani to receive even more hours and higher pay.
Hernani shares that Work Now Hawaii has positively impacted his life by providing him with a consistent routine and the opportunity to work independently. “Everyone here on the contract and at Work Now Hawaii has been very helpful and friendly to me.” His advice to others is to “take pride in the work you do to make your customers satisfied and happy.” He also emphasizes the importance of being kind and positive.
