Josh was looking for a change to pivot to his career when he first connected with Work Now Hawaii at a local networking event. With his background as a sales executive, and freshly issued project management certificates, he was a quick-thinker we needed to help us ramp up our new Ability One contract in 2023. Josh was eager to team up with us and gain experience working in a more practical skill set, which has grown into a wonderful partnership. 

Josh’s passion for Work Now Hawaii, stems from his desire to help others. He says, “It’s great to be part of an organization that supports underserved communities and provides opportunities to people who traditionally struggle with gainful employment. It’s easy to get up every day and go into work knowing that you’re making a difference- often to people who have never been given an honest shake or the time of day invested into their own success.” 

A credit to his versatility and resourcefulness, Josh has excelled at a variety of roles within Work Now Hawaii and now serves as technical project coordinator. His hope for Work Now Hawaii over the next 5 to 10 years is to see the organization continue to expand and increase the number of people impacted across all Hawaiian Islands. He shares that Work Now Hawaii has positively influenced his life by allowing him to build and support a family while finding professional development and meaningful work along the way. “It’s something I’m able to hang my hat on and take pride in what I do” he says. 

Josh says one of the most fulfilling aspects of his work is witnessing the experience of workers who have never had a real job come in and not only meet, but exceed, expectations. “Sure, it might require more hands-on support, training and or accommodations;” he admits, “but seeing the progression of people never given the opportunity- grow from underserved and unemployed into gainfully employed individuals that contribute to their communities is something they (and I) can really be proud about.” Josh’s pride in his work and in the growth of the people who put their trust in him, is one of the reasons he stands out. 

Josh advises others, “Don’t allow anyone to put limitations on what you’re capable of. If you have goals or aspirations, it is best to give it your best and really try to make a difference and never give up. Don’t consider that you don’t have what it takes. If you haven’t been able to reach your high aspirations, don’t stop there. Talk to people about your goals and seek advice, mentorship, or support. More often than not, what you want is attainable if you believe in yourself and consistently chip away at your goals. When your opportunity comes, all the hard work towards your goals and leading up to it prepare you to seize the moment.”
